1) Aaron Rodgers – Packers
Rodgers is the clear cut choice for the #1 spot on this list. He’s shown remarkable consistency, ranking as a top 2 fantasy quarterback 7 of the last 9 years. The Packers continue to struggle in the running game, meaning Rodgers will light up the stat sheets again this year.
2) Drew Brees – Saints
Speaking of consistency, Brees has been a sure thing in each of the past 3 seasons, ranking just behind Rodgers in fantasy scoring. At 37 years old, Brees is coming off of one of his finest statistical years, and the Saints will continue to score (and give up) a ton of points.
3) Tom Brady – Patriots
Tom Brady doesn’t seem to be slowing with age, though at 40 years old he’ll have to at some point. Expect him to put up big numbers, though the loss of top target Julian Edelman to a season ending injury will hurt a bit. Nevertheless, Brady remains in his customary spot toward the top of any fantasy football quarterbacks draft.
4) Matt Ryan – Falcons
Ryan elevated his fantasy games to levels never before seen in 2016. There may be some skepticism that he can maintain that level, especially with the departure of offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan. But all the pieces that made Atlanta’s offense into a juggernaut last year are intact, so expect Ryan to be a top 5 option this year too.
5) Russell Wilson – Seahawks
Wilson had a nightmarish 2016 season dealing with a plethora of injuries, but he’s fully healthy going into this year. With the ability to make plays (and rack up fantasy points) with both his arm and his legs, Wilson should bounce back to his true level of talent.
6) Derek Carr – Raiders
Carr is a rising star in the NFL, and should be rising in any fantasy football quarterbacks draft as well. For the second year in a row, 2016 represented a jump in fantasy production for Carr, and the arrow is still pointed up. Carr is poised to make the leap into being a top 5 fantasy quarterback.
7) Cam Newton – Panthers
In some ways, Cam Newton is an underrated fantasy asset. Everyone knows about his MVP 2015 season, but in 3 of the past 5 years he’s been a top 5 fantasy quarterback 3 times, thanks to his unique ability to run the ball. 2016 was rough but Newton doesn’t have to get back to 2015 form to justify this ranking spot.
8) Marcus Mariota – Titans
Like Carr, Mariota is a quarterback on the rise. Some inconsistent 2016 performances make him a ltitle bit risky, but the upside is there for Mariota to turn in a top 5 fantasy quarterback seeason.
9) Kirk Cousins – Redskins
Cousins has been a consistent top 10 fantasy producer in each of the last two years. He’s lost two of his top wide receivers this year, which might cause a dip in form, but Washington still has plenty of weapons surrounding him.
10) Andrew Luck – Colts
Luck would be a top 5 quarterback on this list were it not for one thing: injuries. Luck is still recovering from an off-season shoulder surgery, and his week 1 status is still in doubt. If healthy, he’s elite, but the injuries are the question mark.
