Officials in Queens, New York yesterday said that they had charged the woman who arranged appointments for unlicensed plastic surgeries with manslaughter. She was arrested after one of her clients died after being injected with silicone in her buttocks. According to the NYPD, the woman in question is 44 years old Allison Spence and was brought to court for a number of offenses including unauthorized practice of a profession and second-degree manslaughter. She is accused for the death of Latesha Bynum, who was 32 years old and from Harlem. At the moment, her accomplice is another woman who is still at large. The lady refused a plea and bail was set at $1 million. The court adhered to the argument by the prosecutors that bail should be set high as the illicit operations acted as cash mills to Ms. Spence. According to witnesses, the lady who died started showing signs of sickness on 15th July 2017. This came after she was injected by the two ladies at an apartment located at 319 East 21st Street. Later on, investigators acquired a search warrant and managed to find aesthetic and surgical equipment used by the two. According to Robert Boyce, who was the chief of the detectives, in this case, he said that the woman died two weeks later at a hospital in New York known as St. Luke’s –Roosevelt Hospital. The head of detectives lamented that the woman died from a botched plastic surgery.
According to doctors who tried to save the life of the lady, they said that she died because the silicone injected into her body blocked her arteries. Ms. Spence becomes the second woman to be charged in Manhattan for illegal plastic surgeries that had gone bad. For instance, a woman by the name Tamira Mobley two weeks ago pleaded guilty to charges of illegally operating a plastic surgery clinic in New York. The 32 years old woman, who was an unlicensed cosmetologist pleaded guilty for involuntary manslaughter. As a result, the lady received a deal that will see her stay in jail for 3-4 years. The process that involves the injection of silicone has become popular in the recent days after celebrities successfully underwent it. For starters, the operation goes by the name Brazilian butt lift. Famous people who have opted for the surgery include Nicki Minaj, Kim Kardashian, and Beyoncé. This has led to a surge of illegal procedures in the US.
