Speaking on Sunday, Arizona Republican Senator John McCain had some harsh words for the wealthy Americans. He criticized them for not serving in the Vietnam War. At the same time, he made it clear that his comments were not directed to President Trump in any way. The ailing Arizona Senator said that wealthy Americans during the Vietnam War used a condition called bone spurs. With this condition, it would be difficult to be drafted to the military as such people didn’t meet the minimum physical requirements. For starters, this is a condition that allowed Donald Trump to stay away from military service. The current president was diagnosed with bone spurs in his heels when he was a young man. Senator John McCain was speaking during an appearance on C-Span. The senator said that he will never understand the way that the situation was handled. The conflict allowed the division of Americans into two parts. There was the low-income Americans and the wealthy Americans who could easily convince a doctor that they were suffering from bone spur. He says that the way that the situation was handled was very poor. He further says that it was wrong. However, it’s important to mention that the Arizona Senator did not mention the current president during his interview.

However, the decision to use bone spurs as a medical reason not to join the army was perceived by many Americans as a jab to the current president. This forced him to appear in another program yesterday known as The View. This is a program that’s co-hosted by his daughter. Not only did he repeat his comments but he emphasized that the current president is not a draft dodger. He explained his comments saying that the system used during the Vietnam War was so broken that it gave some Americans a chance to run away from responsibilities. He, however, said that he had directed his past comments to the president especially the comments that he made in regards to prisoners of war. He accused reporters of twisting his story to appear as if he was attacking Donald Trump. He asked reporters to look into his record to know what he stands for. McCain’s comments further add the concerns that people have over the attitude that Donald Trump has over the military. This is not the first time that the two have clashed over ideologies. Donald Trump was said that John McCain was not a war hero because he was captured.
