Young YouTube Star Makes Millions Reviewing Toys

Most six-year-olds are a decade away from having their first job. That isn’t true for a boy named Ryan, who has become a YouTube sensation with his channel Ryan ToysReview. He recently made the Forbe’s magazine list of highest-paid YouTube stars, landing at number eight.

According to The Washington Post, Ryan earned $11 million between June 1, 2016 and June 1, 2017. He makes most of his money from ads listed on his YouTube page.

In order to protect Ryan’s privacy, his parents have kept his last name and address a secret. That hasn’t stopped millions of kids from tuning in to watch him open toys and play with them. He currently has more than 10 million subscribers, with some of his videos getting almost 20 million views.

Ryan’s parents started the YouTube channel in March of 2015. At the time, the channel had few subscribers and barely any views. That was until a video titled, “100+ cars toys GIANT EGG SURPRISE OPENING Disney Pixar Lighting McQueen kids video Ryan ToysReview” went viral in the summer of 2015. From there, the popularity of the family’s YouTube page grew rapidly.

Ryan’s ToysReview is currently the number one YouTube channel in the United States, and second in the world. Kids all over idolize him, often watching his videos for hours at a time. This often translates into big sales for the products being reviewed.

As of last September, Ryan’s parents were paying for all of the toys being reviewed in the videos. Most of the toys are then donated to charity after the videos are published.

Ryan’s videos aren’t all about toys, though. Some feature him doing every day things, such as getting a hair cut and attending a birthday party. Kids of all ages are connecting with Ryan by watching his normal, every day life. Posts by subscribers on his YouTube page reveal the love many kids have for Ryan, with most viewing him as a close friend.

Personal vlog and “unboxing” videos like Ryan’s are becoming a very popular trend on YouTube. Other stars have emerged as of late, but none have quite struck a cord the way Ryan has, especially at such a young age.
