Waiakea is naturally alkaline water, and the first Hawaiian volcanic water that has a unique process of filtration. Waiakea water goes through 14,000 feet of porous volcanic rock through the Mauna Loa volcano.

The Annals of Otology Rhinology, and Laryngology, a medical journal found that drinking water with a pH of 8.8 compared to the typical acidic water bottles can actually mitigate symptoms of acid reflux when used in conjunction with physician treatment. In fact, traditionally acidic bottled water was proven to be ineffective in acid reflux treatment because the human produced pepsin only reacts in the presence of acid because of the hydrogen ions.
