Jennifer Aniston turned 50 last week on February 11, but as we all know by now, she celebrated a couple of days early by throwing what some have called ‘the party of the year’ on Saturday the 9th at L.A.’s posh Sunset Tower Hotel. The party has received hordes of press, particularly mentioning the illustrious guest list that included dozens of top celebrities from the film, television, fashion, and music industries. Many have compared the guest list to the list of attendees at the Academy Awards and other red carpet events.
But what everybody couldn’t stop talking about, of course, was Brad Pitt. While only a short year ago, Aniston was still married to fellow actor Justin Theroux,
from whom her separation was “heartbreaking but amicable” by Justin’s own account, Theroux did not appear to be in attendance at the Big Bash.
And that didn’t interest fans or tabloid journalists one bit, as everybody was going in for the kill on the big clickbait of the night: the potential for spreading a smorgasbord of rumors that Brad and Jen might get back together again once Brad showed up at the party.
While Brad and Jen stopped being an item over 15 years ago, fans are heavily invested in the image projected by this “perfect celebrity couple” that rose to fame in the late 90’s and early 2000’s while Jen stole hearts as America’s lovelorn sweetheart Rachel Green on Friends. The fire was further fueled when Brad was videotaped arriving at Jen’s birthday party in a mysterious-looking blacked-out SUV, with no date on his arm. Apparently, he had also sent a gift to the birthday girl, which, of course, is to be expected if you’re showing up at someone’s birthday party.
Still, nothing about the evening really suggests that these two are ready to satisfy their fans’ longing for a public reconciliation. John Mayer, another of Jen’s exes whom she dated shortly after her divorce from Brad, was also on hand, which only proves that Aniston is able to remain friends with her partners after they break up. We’re certain that Mayer probably also showed up with a gift, but no one is clamoring for a reconciliation between these two.
But alas, according to a confidential source interviewed by PEOPLE, “Jen didn’t really pay any special attention to Brad. They hugged and chatted for a bit, but Jen was busy making sure all of her other guests had an amazing time.” The same source also went on to comment, “Basically, every single person who loves Jen attended. This included Brad. The party was a celebration of Jen’s life,” and concluded with, “They have been over each other for longer than they were ever together.”
Interestingly, both Brad and John Mayer also had a chance to demonstrate civility toward other ex’s who showed up at the affair: Gwyneth Paltrow, Pitt’s former fiancée, is also one of Jen’s closest BFFs, while John Mayer ran into his ex, Katy Perry, who was escorted by her new love-interest, Orlando Bloom.
Rumors also spread that social media was prohibited at the event, when Paltrow published a group selfie including Jen and her pals with the quote “Happy birthday (last night and tomorrow) to #jenniferaniston our ray of sunshine, example of perpetual goodness. We love you so much and you make 50 LOOK FIRE,” to which Perry responded in all caps “NO SOCIAL MEDIA.” While it’s true that social media at the event was minimal, Kate Hudson also took to Instagram to publish selfies of friends enjoying the party, posting “Love these ladies! Celebrated this beauty last night! Happy Bday JA! We all love you sooo!” along with pics that included her with pals Aniston and Paltrow.
Other guests spotted were Friends’ co-stars Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow, as well as Reese Witherspoon with whom Aniston is partnering on a new TV series for Netflix, though both partners have been mum with details about the upcoming show. Robert Downey Jr. and Jason Bateman came, accompanied by their respective spouses, and Sandra Bullock arrived on the arm of Bryan Randall.
But it didn’t end there. We’re talking big names, Big names, such as Barbra Streisand, Diane Keaton, Demi Moore, Keith Richards, James Brolin, Cindy Crawford, Ellen DeGeneres, Charlie Day, Derek Blasberg, Tom Ford, Jennifer Meyer, Jon Hamm, Laura Dern, Rande Gerber, George and Amal Clooney, and many others.
Names from the business sector of the entertainment industry also abounded, such as Live Nation Production Chief Heather Parry, who, after a series of successful music industry documentaries is now in the limelight as executive producer of Lady Gaga’s blockbuster A Star is Born, co-starring Bradley Cooper in his directorial debut.
All in all, it was an unforgettable evening even if fans didn’t get to see their dream Jen+Brad reconciliation, and if all that stuff plastered across all the tabloids is actually lies. We’re glad that Brad showed up and that Jen, along with all of her show-business friends, had a great time, and it’s nice to see that the two have remained friends for years.
