Lindsey Graham Defends His Old Pal John McCain As Trump Berates McCain’s Legacy

Senator John McCain is a well-respected war hero and American senator. His reputation as a hard-nosed fighter for people’ rights is not a work of fiction. McCain legacy is not something people want to question especially in public because McCain still has millions of supporters. But President Trump doesn’t care about McCain’s legacy or his supporters. McCain did the unspeakable in Mr. Trump’s eyes. Mr. McCain voted against Trump’s lame healthcare bill before he passed, and Trump is still not over it.

Mr. Trump also blames McCain for giving the Steele Dossier to the FBI in 2016. Christopher Steele is an ex-British intelligence agent who worked for a company that gathered information about Hillary Clinton during the 2016 campaign. But in the process of doing his stealth work, Steele also uncovered what some press reports say is the smoking gun in the Trump-Russian collusion story. Mr. Steele report contains 17 memos. And some of those memos paint Donald Trump as a collusionist as well as an out-of-control salacious Russian party-goer.

According to Steele’s report, the Russians and Trump talked about lifting the sanctions against Russia if he became president. That discussion happened in 2015 while Trump attended the Miss Universe pageant in Moscow. Trump also needed help from high-ranking Russian officials to get his massive Trump Tower Moscow built. The Trump Organization needed Putin’s okay to start that project.

John McCain got a copy of Steele’s report in June 2016. Mr. McCain gave the report to the FBI in November 2016 after Trump won the election. Trump calls the dossier fake news, and he claims McCain gave it to the FBI before he won the election. The president also reminded his Twitter followers McCain graduated last in his West Point class. McCain didn’t graduate at the bottom of his class, but he was near the bottom.

Now that the Steele Dossier is back in play, Senator Lindsey Graham, a staunch Trump supporter, defended his old pal John McCain’s legacy. John’s daughter Meghan also threw a couple of Twitter shots at Trump for bashing her father again. But Lindsey made it official when he said John was one of the most influential senators in American history. And no one can take that away from him.

Mr. Trump is under an enormous amount of political and legal pressure, and it looks like the Trumpster needs some kind of win to pull himself out of his self-created debacles, according to the Washington Post. The big question in Washington is what will Trump do next to take the pressure off as he begins to campaign around the country?
